The High Value and Foundation of The Word Series - Notes

(Taught by Abraham Vos of For Your Good Ministries International)

Summary of the first three weeks of teachings in this series, and an insight on the Scriptures we will refer to in the coming weeks.

Psalm 107v20

“He sent His Word to heal them and deliver them from all of their destruction.”

  • In this Scripture we notice a two-fold purpose to The Word – Sequence to The Word.
  • He sent His Word to:
  1. To heal.
  2. That the healing The Word brings will result in being delivered/saved from all of our destructions.
  • Healing precedes deliverance from all our destructions.
  • The Word results in healing, and healing results in deliverance from all our destructions.
  • Need to/Must go to The Word if ever we are going to be delivered from our destructions.

The Word heals and ‘then’ delivers every area of our lives – Marriage, Family, Parenting, Business, Finance, Church/Pastor Leadership and Function, Government, Relationships etc.

Hebrews 4v12

  • The Word of God is living and active; sharper than any two-edged sword.

Hosea 4v6

“My people perish ‘through’ a lack of knowledge.”

A lack of knowledge disables us to do The Word. If we do not know The Word in a given area, we are unable to do it.

Perish – (not living in God’s best – abundance in an area, or areas in our lives – To be removed from success, resultant in destruction.)

Jeremiah 10V23

Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself;
It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

  • It is not in us/mankind to direct our lives.
  • We need the guidance of The Word.

Seek Ye First..

Matthew 6v31-33

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

  • The kingdom of God has Laws/or absolutes that guarantee success in any area of life.
  • We need to seek out The Word in a given area and all these things will be added, or will come from it.
  • When we apply these absolutes, we are assured of a certain outcome for The Word cannot lie – The Word is a law and will produce after its kind.

First Steps to the result/outcome/assurance of the The Word:

Mark 7V13
“Making The Word of God of NO effect by our traditions and doctrines which have been handed down to us by our ancestors.”

Our traditions and doctrines (cultures – or ways of doing things) cut off the power of The Word of God in areas of our lives.

Most nations/people honor, obey, and even defend their cultures far above The Word. This renders The Word totally ineffective!

Romans 12V1-2

12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God
, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Paul describes a three-fold approach/or steps to knowing and living experientially in the Good, Acceptable, Perfect Will of God:

  1. That we put our traditions and doctrines/cultures on the altar as a sacrifice to be burnt; IE that we no longer do things our way, or the ways of our ancestors.
  2. From this that we no longer conform to the patterns/or ways that the world does things.
  3. That we here from renew our minds by The Word of God.

Paul then guarantees us that once we have followed these three steps in sequence we will live in the Good, Acceptable, and Perfect Will of God.

The Holy Spirit and The Word a Team.

Genesis 1V1-3

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

  • In Verse 1 God creates the heavens and the earth. Whatever God creates He creates as Good.
  • In Verse 2 we see a stark contrast from Verse 1 for the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep. Something catastrophic occurred in Verse 2 that left the earth is this deplorable state.
  • In Verse 2 continued we notice that the Holy Spirit was hovering over this deplorable situation for prospectively millions of years ‘doing nothing about’ the situation.
  • In Verse 3 we realise what ‘releases’ the Holy Spirit = The Word.
  • In Verse 3 ‘God said’ and that immediately ‘released’ the Holy Spirit to bring about the change.
  • The Holy Spirit and The Word Always work together. The One is ineffective without the Other.
  • When we do The Word we can be Sure the Holy Spirit will bring about the covenant result of The Word.

Mary regarding the conception of Jesus.

Luke 1v26-38

26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

We notice the same principle in the conception of Jesus:

  1. The Angel brought a Word.
  2. The Holy Spirit was hovering/overshadowing Mary.
  3. Once Mary received The Word the Holy Spirit immediately brought about the conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary.
  • Jesus would not have been able to come to earth had Mary not received The Word.
  • The Holy Spirit would still have been hovering over Mary to no result to this day.
  • The Word is powerful for it, and only it, releases the almighty power of the Holy Spirit to bring about the promise of The Word.

John 1v1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

In John 1v1 we see the same principle as that of Genesis 1v1-3.

  • When we go to The Word in the beginning of any new area/venture/decision, so we will ‘release’ The Holy Spirit to bring about God’s heart desire in that area of our lives.

Jeremiah 1v12

12 Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [actively] watching over My Word to fulfil/perform/manifest/bring it to pass.”

Let’s look at the steps to Jeremiah’s success:

  1. When he saw God’s Word he was described as ‘seeing well.’ Unless it’s God’s Word we are not seeing well.
  2. Because Jeremiah was ‘seeing well’ we notice that The Holy Spirit was actively watching over The Word God had given to bring about the result of The Word.

Psalm 138v2b

“For You have magnified/elevated Your word above all Your name.”

This is a powerful Scripture that sets a clear president!

  • God has magnified/estimated that His Word is above/higher than ALL His Names!
  • Unless it’s The Word the Names of God are ‘ineffective.’
  • We can be praying/or trusting in the mighty Name of Jesus and unless our prayers etc are aligned to God’s Word we will not get the desired result!

Mark 4v1-20

The Parable of the Sower/The Parable of the Condition of one’s heart.

4 And again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching:

“Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

The Disciples ask Jesus to explain the Parable:

The Parable of the Sower Explained – or The Parable of the Condition of one’s heart explained.

13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Romans 10v17

Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”

Joshua 1v8

This Book of the Law/Word shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Be doers of The Word!

James 1v22-24

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty (IE The Word) and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

  • Faith without works/a corresponding action is dead.

John 8v31-32

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Psalm 119v105

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

John 14v6

I am the way; the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 6v63

My Words, they are Spirit and they are life/truth.

The Word – An incorruptible Seed.

1 Peter 1v23

23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptibleseed, through the Word of God which lives and abides forever.

The nature of God and the enemy – Who’s who?

John 10v10

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. – Enemy comes to steal The Word.

Sword of The Spirit = The Word.

Ephesians 6v13-18

13 Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.

Give attention to The Word.

Proverbs 4v20-23

20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.
23 Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.

RENEWING THE MIND

Romans 12V1-2

12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Side note: – Our choices determine our outcomes.

Deuteronomy 30v19

19I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life that both you and your descendants may live.
